“Achieving Our Country”: Patriotism, Love, and Hope In Social Studies Education
This paper explores philosophical approaches to national identity, patriotism, rootedness, and hope. Taking a post-critical stance, I discuss “new vocabularies” around patriotism that offer teachers ways of thinking about patriotism in different ways, showing how forms of patriotism might cultivate students’ love for the world and hope for better futures.
