“My Religion Takes Precedence Over My Culture”: How A Muslim, Arab American Preservice Elementary Teacher Navigates The Social Studies
This qualitative case study examines how an Arab American preservice elementary teacher's racial and cultural identity shapes her pedagogical and curricular decision-making. Using postcolonial theory, findings reveal that the participant prioritized her Muslim identity over her Moroccan heritage, while carefully structuring lessons to authentically teach Islamic experiences.
