Theorizing Social Studies Education From Below: Civic Knowledge, Praxis, and Possibility From Los de Abajo

This symposium theorizes culturally grounded civic practices from Latinx and Caribbean communities—including rasquache, jeitinho, bregando, and kwas—as epistemological resources for social studies education. Panelists explore how knowledge from los de abajo expands civic imagination, challenges dominant paradigms, and reimagines theory, pedagogy, and political possibility.
