“So, Let's Talk About This”: Making Sense of Whole-Group Discussion Enacted In Elementary Social Studies Classrooms
This instrumental case study examines whole‑group discussion across two elementary social studies inquiry units. Drawing on sociocultural theory and analysis of classroom video, we define discussion, identify its varied purposes, and highlight teacher moves that scaffold participation and disciplinary sensemaking in inquiry‑based elementary classrooms.
