Democratic Citizenship Education Under Constraint: A Critical Phenomenological Study of Teacher Agency and Everyday Resistance
In politically-ideologically managed schools, democratic teaching survives not through open defiance alone but through teachers’ subtle acts of negotiation, care, and subversion. Drawing on critical phenomenology, this study shows how teacher agency and everyday resistance sustain democratic possibility under authoritarian constraint in Thailand amid mounting pressures on civic education worldwide.
