We present a portrait of novice social studies teacher development in discussion facilitation. Drawing from a 5-year longitudinal data set comprising 212 classroom videos of two cohorts of preservice secondary social studies candidates from two teacher education programs, we ask: How do novice social studies teachers learn to facilitate discussion?
