Conceptualizing Change: Preservice Teachers’ Approaches To Integrating Mathematics and Social Studies Through Local Social Issues

This session examines how preservice teachers conceptualize place-based, interdisciplinary instruction integrating mathematics and social studies to investigate local social issues and foster civic action. We present a modeled lesson and preservice teachers' designed integrated learning frameworks, highlighting their perceived benefits and challenges to these pedagogical approaches.
