Humanizing Immigration and Refugee Experiences: A Student-Centered Approach To Teaching Social Studies With Children’s Picturebooks In The Elementary Classroom

Presenters highlight an elementary educator’s implementation of a unit on immigration narratives to disrupt the monolithic narratives often perpetuated in the current sociopolitical context. This critical, student-centered approach to complexifying student understanding of immigration narratives serves as a model for teacher educators to share with pre-service and in-service teachers.
