Urban Space As Historical Archive: Using Street Photography To Democratize The Study of History
Traditional history often privileges narratives from a top-down perspective. This study outlines an alternative approach, calling on students to as street photographers. Eight college history majors conducted “photowalks” in New York City and Philadelphia, establishing a method of historical inquiry that develops visual literacy and connects history to contemporary issues.
