“Cherry Picking Colonialism”: Youth’s Reflections On Local Historic Sites As Countercurrents To Marginalized Narratives

In collaboration with 10 youth local to a major historic site, I explore youth’s place-based understanding of links between identity and local histories. I analyze youth’s awareness of their positionalities, their definitions of “real” history, and their desire for historical narratives to unearth marginalized “everyday” histories.
