When Inquiry Becomes Shield: Political Fear and The Transformation of Social Studies Pedagogy In Preservice Teacher Formation
This qualitative study examines how political fear transforms social studies disciplinary practices in preservice teacher formation. Drawing on Ahmed’s affective economies, interviews with seven social studies preservice teachers reveal that inquiry and discussion are adopted as survival strategies rather than democratic commitments, with structural consequences for where critical teaching reaches.
