From Barriers To Bridges: Integrating Socioscientific Issues To Address Barriers To Teaching Elementary Social Studies

This presentation investigates a master’s-level pilot course designed to address challenges in elementary social studies instruction. By integrating social studies with science through socioscientific issues (SSI), it highlights teachers’ engagement with SSI and their perspectives on its role in fostering student agency, civic engagement, and future thinking.
