More Than Their Patents: A Critical Analysis of Black Inventor Inquiries
This study examines how four inquiry lessons position Black inventors. We coded IDMs using King's Black Historical Consciousness and Fouché's humanizing approach as lenses. Findings indicate that IDMs were uneven in confronting oppression and highlighting agency, and often defaulted to contribution-centered narratives. IDMs exhibited design flaws that limited civic debate.
