Navigating Difficult Topics: Pre-Service Teachers’ Pedagogical Reasoning In Elementary Social Studies

This study examines how elementary pre-service teachers reason about teaching difficult social studies topics, including historical injustices and controversial public issues. Drawing on pedagogical reasoning, the project analyzes assignments, class discussions, and interviews to explore how novice teachers navigate tensions surrounding developmental appropriateness, neutrality, and justice-oriented civic inquiry.
